Using a forecast well
- Read the words, not just the icon. “Wind west 40 gusting to 70” changes your day far more than a sun symbol.
- Watch the trend. If each update makes things worse, plan for the worse version.
- Percent chance of precipitation is the chance of measurable precipitation at any point in the area, not how much of the day it will rain.
- Check where you’re going. Waterton, the Crowsnest Pass and the Cypress Hills can be very different from Lethbridge.
- Short-term beats long-term. The next 24 to 48 hours are fairly reliable. Day five and beyond is a rough guide.
